Privacy policy

This page lists everything Infinite Backlog collects, why, and who handles it for us.

You can play without an account

Offline modes never need an account, and your personal bests stay on your iPhone. Nothing about offline play leaves it. The global leaderboard, the Daily Sprint, and online matches need an account. You can sign in with Game Center, Sign in with Apple, or a code sent to your email, and you can add more than one of these to the same account.

What we collect

  • Email address. Used only to sign you in: to send you a sign-in code, or the address Apple shares when you use Sign in with Apple (which can be a private relay address that hides your real one). It is never shown to other players, never returned by any game endpoint, and never written to our logs.
  • User ID. A random identifier for your account. Your public name is a job title made from fixed word lists, such as “Fractional Vibes Whisperer #4821”.
  • Sign-in IDs from Apple. If you use Sign in with Apple, the ID Apple gives us for you. If you use Game Center, your Game Center player ID for our games. We use them only to find your account when you sign in. We never see your Apple Account password or your Game Center friends.
  • Gameplay content. Scores, levels reached, match results, ranked ratings, and the input logs of runs and matches. We use input logs to replay a run and check that its score is real.

All of this is linked to your account and used only to run the game. We do not track you across other apps or websites. The app has no advertising.

Anonymous gameplay events. The app sends anonymous events about how the game is played (for example, a run started or a sign-in finished) to PostHog, which helps us improve the game. They carry a random ID made for this install, never your email, user ID, or name, and are not linked to your account. You can turn them off in Settings.

How long we keep it

  • Input logs of runs: 90 days, unless the run holds a leaderboard place.
  • Input logs of matches: 30 days.
  • Scores, placements, and ratings: until you delete your account.

Who handles your data for us

  • Neon. Hosts the database and the sign-in service (accounts and email addresses).
  • Vercel. Runs this website and the game's web API.
  • Fly.io. Runs the game server for online matches and checks uploaded runs.
  • Our email provider. Sends the six-digit sign-in codes.
  • PostHog. Receives the anonymous gameplay events, if you leave them on.
  • Apple. Confirms who you are when you use Sign in with Apple or Game Center to sign in. Apple tells us an ID for you, and with Sign in with Apple an email address, which can be a private relay address.

We do not sell your data or share it with anyone else.

Your rights

You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings, then Delete my account. This removes your account, runs, leaderboard places, ratings, and sign-in IDs, and tells Apple to disconnect Sign in with Apple from this game. In match history, your seat shows as “Former Employee”. Your offline progress stays on your iPhone.

You can ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct it, through the support page. If you are in the EU, the GDPR gives you these rights, and you can complain to your data protection authority.
